Christmas Tree Care:
- The single most important thing is to keep the tree in a stand that holds water. Check the water level daily and more frequently the first several days.
- If the trunk of your tree is not kept in water, sap seals over the cut and keeps the tree from absorbing water, even when water is added to the stand. A tree stand that holds a large quantity of water is less likely to run dry during long weekends away from home or during times of inattention. Keep the tree away from heat sources.
- If the tree has been cut down for more than several hours it is very important to make a fresh cut on the tree trunk before placing the tree in a stand. Cut about one inch off the trunk before placing the tree in a stand with water.
